Degrees, Majors, Minors, and Options: Baccalaureate Degree The Department: The Department of Near Eastern Studies is in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Near Eastern Studies investigates the history, cultures, languages and geography of the region now known as the Middle East, but referred to as the Near East for studies of the pre-Christian era. This region includes the Arab world, Turkey, Iran and Israel, and ranges from Morocco on the Atlantic Ocean to the Persian Gulf. The major for the Bachelor of Arts degree requires two years or the equivalent of Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Hebrew or other appropriate language. All courses are chosen in consultation with and approved by the departmental Undergraduate Advisor. For more information contact the department office listed above. |
