PED 696A -- A Survey of Interdisciplinary Pediatric Pulmonary Issues  (1-17 units)
Description:  All MCHB training programs aim to promote comprehensive, coordinated, family- centered and culturally sensitive systems of health care that serve the diverse needs of all families within their communities. The mission of the Pediatric Pulmonary Centers is to develop interdisciplinary leaders who will improve the health of children with respiratory conditions through the provision of family-centered care. The goal of this course is to provide interdisciplinary leadership training for graduate health professionals

PED 803 -- Clinical Clerkship  (6 units)
Description:  This six-week clerkship is required of all students in their initial clinical year. Stress is placed upon acquisition and refinement of basic data collection, upon problem solving and accumulation of factual knowledge and achieving those attitudes associated with being a physician.

PED 815Z -- Adolescent Medicine  (1-16 units)
Description:  Goals: Upon successful completion of this elective, the student will be able to: 1 - perform a competent H-E-A-D-S adolescent assessment, and identify and address an adolescent's high-risk behaviors; 2 - competently perform an adolescent history and physical examination; 3 - be comfortable performing an adolescent pelvic examination, and will be able to offer competent advice to an adolescent concerning sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy prevention; 4 - perform a competent sports medicine examination, and will have an understanding of common sports-related injuries in adolescents and young adults.

PED 816B -- Primary Care of Children with Special Health Care Needs  (1-16 units)
Description:  Objectives/Goals: The goal of this rotation is to familiarize students with pediatric family-centered care, coordination, multi-disciplinary approaches to care, chronic care pediatrics in a “Medical Home” care model, and related research areas of interest.

PED 816D -- Pediatric Anatomic and Clinical Pathology  (1-16 units)
Description:  The elective in pediatric anatomic and clinical pathology offers the senior medical student in-depth exposure to pediatric surgical pathology, cytopathology, and autopsy pathology. Various aspects of the clinical laboratory may be experienced, including hematopathology, microbiology, transfusion medicine, and clinical chemistry. Students will directly participate in gross and microscopic surgical pathology, intraoperative consultations, gross and microscopic autopsy examination, and microscopic examination and flow cytometry of bone marrow. At the end of the elective the student will understand the activities involved in pediatric pathology and will have gained a basic knowledge of diagnostic pediatric anatomic pathology.

PED 816E -- Adolescent Reproductive Health  (1-16 units)
Description:  This course will be similar to 815Z: Adolescent Medicine, but will have a focus on adolescent reproductive health. Upon successful completion of this elective, the student will be able to: 1 - perform a competent H-E-A-D-S adolescent assessment, and identify and address an adolescent’s high-risk behaviors; 2 - competently perform an adolescent history and physical examination; 3 – perform a competent adolescent pelvic examination, and 4 – be able to provide reproductive health advice to adolescents, including sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancy prevention, and (optionally) pregnancy termination counseling.

PED 891J -- Pediatric Medical Camp  (1-16 units)
Description:  The student will obtain a unique insight into the management of chronic disease in children, with the physical and emotional effects that confront them. The student will experience the therapeutic benefits of exercise and wilderness exposure in children, as well as strengthen communication skills with them. The student will develop an appreciation for the daily management and routines necessary for chronically ill patients in a non-medical setting, and participate whenever required. It is expected that the student will accompany campers during visits to the medical facility and triage the issues, if possible for the medical team.
