Departments, Schools, CollegesPEDIATRICS (PED )Contact Information:
Go directly to: Medical student electives are described in the College of Medicine Electives Manual. The Department: The Department of Pediatrics is in the College of Medicine. The unique concerns of pediatrics as a medical discipline are: 1) the period of life between conception and the first month of life, loosely termed perinatology; 2) the fact that children are growing and developing constantly, which results in unique physiological, biochemical, molecular, pathological and psychosocial considerations; and 3) the period of life known as adolescence with its characteristic physiologic and psychologic changes. The objectives of the department are to provide all students of medicine, from freshmen in medical school to the accomplished physician, an opportunity to learn our best understanding of health and disorders in relation to the above concerns. We also have as a goal the contribution of new knowledge by appropriate research activities and the application of all available knowledge by models of health care. These objectives are achieved by the course offerings, by active participation in regular postgraduate programs, and by the research and clinical activities in the department. For more information contact the department listed above. |
