All courses below are approved to be taught in Summer 2008; however, some (or all) may not be offered.  The course numbers that are offered, in either Pre-Session, Summer I or Summer II, are linked to the Schedule of Classes. GRAD 694A -- Supervised College Level Teaching  (4 units)
Description:  The practical application, on an individual basis, of previously studied theory and data collection for future theoretical interpretation.
Grading:  Alternative grades are awarded for this course: S P C D E.
Prerequisite(s):  completion of two other courses in Certificate of College Teaching Program. For details, contact University Teaching Center.
May be repeated:  for credit 1 time (maximum 2 enrollments).

GRAD 697A -- Learner Centered Teaching  (3 units)
Description:  Designed for graduate students who will be serving as teaching assistants/graders or who plan to pursue a career in teaching. Pedagogical issues central to teaching/learning at the college level such as learning styles, classroom climate and culture will be covered.

GRAD 697B -- Using Technology in Teaching  (3 units)
Description:  Course combines in-depth reading and discussion related to pedagogical issues in the use of technology in teaching and learning with guided, individually focused training and practice in using technology in teaching.

GRAD 697C -- Workshop on Teaching at the College Level  (3 units)
Description:  Workshop that deals with the practical application of teaching/learning theories at the college level as they relate to instructional methodologies, strategies, and planning. This will include instructional objectives, content organization, and assessment of learning experiences. The workshop will involve the exchange of ideas and will focus on practical methods, skills and principles.

GRAD 697D -- College Teaching for ITAs (International Teaching Assistants)  (3 units)
Description:  This course covers the fundamentals of American College teaching methods and cross-cultural issues involving inside and outside classroom teacher-student interactions. This course provides opportunities for highly interactive, discipline-videotaped/playback sessions.

GRAD 697E -- English Pronunciation for ITAs  (2 units)
Description:  The purpose of this course is to help ITAs improve their pronunciation of American English through intensive practice. Rhythm, stress, intonation, and accuracy at the word level will be covered. Coursework will involve increasing language fluency, analyzing the sounds of American English, and developing monitoring skills. In addition, students will have individualized work on correct articulation of consonant and vowels.

GRAD 699 -- Independent Study  (1-3 units)
Description:  Qualified students working on an individual basis with professors who have agreed to supervise such work. Graduate students doing independent work which cannot be classified as actual research will register for credit under course number 599, 699, or 799.

May be repeated:  for a total of 3 units of credit.
