ED P 301C -- Child Development: Birth to Age 8  (3 units)
Description:  This course surveys human development from conception through early adolescence with an emphasis on early and middle childhood, and integrates principles of development with early childhood and elementary pedagogy. Theories of child development will be discussed, compared and contrasted. Students will explore how various theories and issues in child development directly and indirectly affect classroom applications such as curriculum decisions, instructional methods, classroom management, and assessment. ED P 357C -- Methods of Educational Assessment, Monitoring & Reporting Progress: Birth-Age 8  (2 units)
Description:  This is a basic course for preservice teachers on ways to integrate classroom assessment into instructional planning and practices to improve student learning. You will learn general concepts about testing and measurement, including but not limited to: (1) aligning tests with instructional objectives, (2) developing and evaluating tests, (3) grading and weighing strategies, (4) understanding and interpreting standardized tests, and (5) understanding basic statistical properties of tests and measurement, such as reliability and validity.

Description:  An honors thesis is required of all the students graduating with honors. Students ordinarily sign up for this course as a two-semester sequence. ED P 539 -- School Bullying Prevention and Intervention  (3 units)
Temporary course:  offered during Summer 2008 only.
Description:  School bullying, including cyberbullying is the focus of the course. Types of bullying, prevalence, causes, consequences, and a variety of approaches to reducing the problem will be covered. Current research will be reviewed, as will materials for students, teachers and parents.
