OB G 581 -- Clinical Genetic Counseling  (2 units)
Description:  Principles of genetic counseling, general topics related to issues raised during genetic counseling (such as coping with chronic illnesses), and specific genetic counseling issues related to unique disorders encountered in the genetics clinic and other genetic counseling situations. Such disorders include prenatal, pediatric and adult genetic conditions.

Prerequisite(s):  limited to students in the genetic counseling training program except by consent of instructor.

OB G 585 -- Human Embryology and Teratology  (3 units)
Description:  A systems approach to embryonic and fetal development; principles of teratology with emphasis on specific teratogenic agents and counseling of exposed individuals.

OB G 594 -- Practicum  (1-3 units)
Description:  The practical application, on an individual basis, of previously studied theory and the collection of data for future theoretical interpretation.

OB G 595A -- Introduction to Genetic Counseling  (1 unit)
Description:  Introduction to principles of genetic counseling including such issues as client autonomy, decision-making, risk perception, cultural sensitivity , and the techniques used to achieve these.
Grading:  Regular or alternative grades can be awarded for this course: A B C D E or S P C D E.
May be repeated:  for credit 1 time (maximum 2 enrollments).

OB G 596J -- Rounds  (1 unit)
Description:  The development and exchange of scholarly information, usually in a small group setting. The scope of work shall consist of research by course registrants, with the exchange of the results of such research through discussion, reports, and/or papers.

Prerequisite(s):  limited to students in the genetic counseling training program except by consent of instructor.
May be repeated:  for a total of 6 units of credit.

OB G 599 -- Independent Study  (1-6 units)
Description:  Qualified students working on an individual basis with professors who have agreed to supervise such work. Graduate students doing independent work which cannot be classified as actual research will register for credit under course number 599, 699, or 799.

OB G 699 -- Independent Study  (1-4 units)
Description:  Qualified students working on an individual basis with professors who have agreed to supervise such work. Graduate students doing independent work which cannot be classified as actual research will register for credit under course number 599, 699, or 799.

OB G 800A -- Research  (1-16 units)
Description:  Experience in each of the following research areas is available with individually designed programs up to six weeks in length: Reproductive Diagnostic Ultrasound, Endocrine Laboratory, Perinatal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, Fertility Control, and Gynecology.

OB G 800B -- OB-GYN Research  (1-16 units)
Description:  Goals: Upon successful completion of this elective, students will understand the basic principles of research design and be able to research the medical literature in preparation of a clinical research project. (Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center)

OB G 803 -- Clinical Clerkship  (1-16 units)
Description:  Medical students will be assigned to outpatient clinics and hospital wards to become members, along with the attending physician, of the team responsible for the patient's care.

OB G 810A -- Preparation for Practice  (1-16 units)
Description:  This elective course for year IV students will essentially be an externship in a Phoenix or Tucson hospital to include exposure to the full gamut of obstetrical and gynecological care conducted under direct supervision of a faculty member. The elective period may be four or six weeks.

OB G 810B -- Preparation for Private Practice  (3-6 units)
Description:  This elective course for year IV students is to provide patient care experience in a rural and/or underserved area of Arizona. Closely supervised preceptorship in Ob/Gyn in a private practice setting removed from the University.

Description:  This program is designed to allow the student interested in obstetrics the opportunity to refine clinical skills and provide exposure to a variety of high risk obstetrical patients. 3 or 6 wks; maximum length of 6 wks; offered year round Directly supervised/Patient care. Maximum enrollment of 1 per period.

OB G 815W -- Issues in Women's Health  (1-16 units)
Description:  To learn about the following elements of women's health: 1. Coronary Diseases 2. Osteoporosis 3. Cancer 4. Menopause 5. Contraception 6. Infertility 7. Sexually Transmitted Disease and 8. Clinical Trials.In addition, an optional segment on pregnancy termination will be available. Clinical and seminar experiences will focus on psychosocial, cross-cultural, and communication issues as they pertain to women's health. 4 wks; offered February - March Directly supervised/Patient care Maximum enrollment 4.

OB G 891G -- Learning Through Pregnancy  (1-16 units)
Description:  This elective is intended to provide medical students with the opportunity to experience longitudinal care by following a woman throughout her pregnancy and neonatal period. The goal is for students to experience continuity of care with an emphasis on women’s health. The students will meet this goal by becoming familiar with the prenatal exam (the questions that are asked during different stages of the pregnancy and the concerns/risks that exist during various trimesters), becoming knowledgeable about normal prenatal care and the process of labor and delivery, and ultimately, learning about pregnancy from the prenatal patients themselves.

OB G 891I -- Rural Health Professions Preceptorship  (1-16 units)
Description:  This course is designed to provide medical students with quality educational experiences in selected rural settings.

OB G 896A -- Assisted Reproductive Technologies  (1-16 units)
Description:  Goals: To provide students with an opportunity to learn about Assisted Reproductive Technologies, which are widely applied to infertile patients. The recent advances in the field of human reproduction will be presented.
