EDL 200 -- A Global Perspective on Schooling  (3 units)
Description:  This exploratory course will introduce students to the role of schools in society through a comprehensive review of culture and traditions. Emphasis will be placed on social issues and trends that impact schooling and the implications for the future direction of education. How effective is our current educational system?; how has the role of the teacher changed?; how does American education "stack up" against other countries? and are current reforms really going to improve education? are among the topical questions addressed in this course. Students will be expected to participate in field study and observation experiences in school settings.

Prerequisite(s):  two courses from Tier One, Individuals and Societies (INDV 101, 102, 103, 104).

EDL 270 -- Social Justice Leadership  (2 units)
Description:  Societal issues (gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability, religion, class) will be discussed. The course will equip students with skills to bring about positive societal change in the community by increasing personal awareness expanding knowledge, and encouraging action.

EDL 271 -- Service Leadership  (2 units)
Description:  Students will explore the connection between leadership and community involvement through concepts of philanthropy/volunteerism, community service, civic responsibility, civil society, citizen leadership and social change.

EDL 272 -- Professional Development and Leadership (Life after the UA)  (2 units)
Description:  Students will become prepared for transition from college into graduate school/career by enhancing professional development and leadership skills. Topics discuss: career exploration, graduate school preparation, finances, job search strategies and community development.

EDL 280 -- Peer Leadership and Education  (2 units)
Description:  This course is designed to offer paraprofessional training for student leaders in various campus leadership programs. Students learn student leadership development skills as well as campus-based policies and procedures related to their leadership positions.

EDL 281 -- Event Planning and Leadership  (2 units)
Description:  This course will train students involved with the Arizona Collegiate Leadership Conference planning committee on event planning and management by learning skills such as how to work with teams, develop marketing strategies, manage budgets, network and create a vision.

EDL 291A -- Leadership and Involvement Preceptorship  (1-3 units)
Description:  This course allows students who serve as coordinators, teaching assistants, and high-level facilitators for Greek Life, Leadership, Campus Activities, Commuter Student Affairs and student organizations to practice and reflect upon their leadership skills.

EDL 293A -- Leadership and Involvement Internship  (1-3 units)

Description:  This course focuses on understanding and critiquing how leadership is designed and perceived in American society, critically examinining structures and values of current leadership models, practices, and systems, and identifying social change through innovative leadership vision.

EDL 498 -- Senior Capstone  (1-3 units)
Description:  A culminating experience for majors involving a substantive project that demonstrates a synthesis of learning accumulated in the major, including broadly comprehensive knowledge of the discipline and its methodologies. Senior standing required.

EDL 498H -- Honors Thesis  (3 units)
Description:  An honors thesis is required of all the students graduating with honors. Students ordinarily sign up for this course as a two-semester sequence. The first semester the student performs research under the supervision of a faculty member; the second semester the student writes an honors thesis.

EDL 562 -- Arizona Education Law  (3 units)
Description:  Masters course designed for beginning school administrators. AZ law as enacted by the Legislature and promulgated by AZ administrative agencies. Focus on practical knowledge at the school building level. Comparison with other states.

EDL 566 -- Computer Applications in School Administration  (3 units)
Description:  Techniques for using computers to make school administration more efficient; using computers to enhance the management of information.

EDL 620 -- Advanced Foundations of Educational Leadership: Theory, Research and Practice  (3 units)
Description:  Doctoral core course examining application of theory and research to educational leadership practice. A social systems approach is utilized to understand the components of a school including: structure, individuals, culture, politics, environment, outcomes, and feedback loops.

EDL 621 -- Organizational, Operational, & Resource Leadership  (3 units)

EDL 622 -- Research & Data-Based Decision Making  (3 units)
Description:  Analysis of representation and use of data in research and for school and district-based decision making. Procedures for gathering data sources are examined. Data collection methods and techniques are analyzed and critiqued.

Description:  Examination of leadership and its relationship to curricular development and organization, instruction and supervision, student learning, and school change processes, political and policy perspectives of current reform efforts, especially in context of state and national agendas.

EDL 696A -- Topics in Educational Leadership  (1-3 units)
