Military Science (ML S)  Department Info

ML S 110 -- Physical Fitness Training  (1 unit)
Description:  Develop an awareness of the importance of physical fitness and its life-long benefits. Enhance the individual's physical conditioning to improve general health.
Grading:  Regular grades are awarded for this course: A B C D E.
May be repeated:  for credit 8 times (maximum 9 enrollments).
Usually offered:  Fall, Spring.

ML S 197A -- Introduction to Military Skills I  (3 units)
Description:  Organization of the Army: principles and techniques of applied leadership; customs, traditions and military courtesy; basic marksmanship; first aid; land navigation; small-unit tactics; desert survival; and self-defense. 4 sections, 1 lab required. Required field trip to Ft. Huachuca, AZ.
Grading:  Regular grades are awarded for this course: A B C D E.
Special course fee required:  $35.
Course includes 1 or more field trips.
Prerequisite(s):  open to freshman and sophomores, all others with consent of instructor.
Usually offered:  Fall.

Description:  Increase self-confidence, mental discipline and physical fitness through hands-on instruction. The capstone event is a regional competition to be held in the Fall.

Course includes 1 or more field trips.
May be repeated:  for credit 4 times (maximum 5 enrollments).

ML S 297A -- Army Leadership Dynamics I  (3 units)
Description:  Development of leadership training for the individual in small unit levels, introduction into military tactical planning skills, practical experiences in writing and briefing military operation orders and land navigation. 4 sections, 1 lab required. Required field trip to Ft. Huachuca, AZ. Open to all freshmen and sophomores.

Description:  Six-week summer training camp at Ft. Lewis, Washington, required for commissioning as an officer in U.S. Army.

Prerequisite(s):  open only to Advanced Course Army ROTC cadets.
Usually offered:  Fall, Spring.

ML S 400 -- Officership I  (4 units)
Description:  Development of skills required to function as a manager; motivation and behavior in a military environment; highlights personal integrity, honor and professional ethics; military legal system; unit management; practicum. Will include a week-end field trip to Ft. Huachuca, Arizona. Weekly lab required.

ML S 401 -- Officership II  (4 units)

Description:  The development and exchange of scholarly information, usually in a small group setting. The scope of work shall consist of research by course registrants, with the exchange of the results of such research through discussion, reports, and/or papers.
Grading:  Regular or alternative grades can be awarded for this course: A B C D E or S P C D E.
Prerequisite(s):  consult department before enrolling.
May be repeated:  for credit 2 times (maximum 3 enrollments).

ML S 499 -- Independent Study  (1-3 units)
Description:  Qualified students working on an individual basis with professors who have agreed to supervise such work.
Grading:  Alternative grades are awarded for this course: S P C D E.
May be repeated:  an unlimited number of times, consult your department for details and possible restrictions.
