Involvement

• Students involved on campus tend to have better grades and retention and are more likely to graduate. Not to mention they have more fun while at the UA. See what’s happening on campus and be a part of it!
• Come check out Student Government [ASUA & GPSC] on the 3rd level of the Student Union, if you want to join a club or organization, or just come out to one of our incredible events; Spring Fling or great concerts anyone?
• If you’re up on the 4th level of the Student Union, drop by the Center for Student Involvement & Leadership to find out about Fraternity & Sorority Programs, the Women’s Resource Center, Pride Alliance, the VETS Center, and UA Leadership Programs.
• And then when you want to relax, head down to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd levels of the Student Union and you’ll find the Games Room, Gallagher Theater, the Union and Kachina Galleries.
• The University of Arizona offers one of the finest college dining services in the country. Our quality, variety, convenience, and healthy food options are unsurpassed.
• The Arizona Student Unions offer several convenient services right inside the Student Union Memorial Center. So you never have to leave campus; banking services, US Post Office, CatCard Services, UA Bookstore, and much more.
• Involvement at the UA isn’t like high school extracurriculars. You can lead, plan events and organizations, apply what you've learned in class, and even find money for college [with a J-O-B, of course]. It’s all here.

Engagement

The 100% Engagement Initiative at the University of Arizona is based on our recognition that experiences beyond the classroom provide a framework for our students to enrich their professional and personal growth, and the importance of those experiences is reflected by an Engaged Learning Notation on our students' transcripts.

A set of Engagement Activities and Competencies connect each student's experience to the UA's core strengths and values.

Each engagement activity and competency builds upon a set of personal and professional skills as well. Students must reflect upon and demonstrate that they're applying their learning by asking questions, solving problems, or creatively engaging others to graduate with an “Engaged Learning Experience” notation on their transcript.

In support of the Engagement Initiative, Leadership Programs restructured its curriculum and programs to ensure students earn an Engaged Learning Experience notation on their transcript. This restructuring of Leadership Programs has resulted in many new and exciting changes that are designed to benefit students. [Learn more]

Leadership

Engagement occurs when students translate and apply their learning within and beyond the classroom into transformative experiences and practices that impact their professional and personal lives. For example, Student Engagement can occur in the following learning experiences:

• Original and collaborative advanced laboratory and field research;
• Creative performances, artistic endeavors, and productions;
• Internships and externships;
• Practicums and preceptorships;
• Study abroad experiences;
• Service learning projects--community-based activities to address critical needs; and,
• Student-centered co-curricular activities that build on classroom learning.

Students may complete more than one engagement experience by registering for a course or non-credit experience that has a different Engagement Activity and Competency. There is no limit on the number of student engagement courses or non-credit experiences that a student may take. [Learn more]
