The College: The University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law is a member of the Association of American Law Schools and an approved law school of the American Bar Association. A rigorous course of professional education prepares students for service to the community in the private and public practice of law. Juris Doctor (J.D.): To qualify for admission to the J.D. program, a student must possess a broad educational experience, outstanding analytical abilities, excellent writing skills, and significant intellectual capacity. Law study requires a commitment to a rigorous course of study during which students must master analytical techniques, the principles of the law and of the legal system, and polish writing and presentation skills. The J.D. program requires successful completion of 85 units of study, typically over three years. Rogers College of Law's Indigenous Peoples Law and Policy Program (IPLPP) is to promote the protection and advancement of the human rights of American Indian and other indigenous peoples of the world. The IPLPP pursues this mission through a set of unique and innovative university-based academic and hands-on training programs for law and other graduate level students, American Indian and other indigenous communities, and scholars and advocates active in the fields of American Indian and other indigenous peoples' human rights. Hopkins Master of Laws in International Trade Law (LL.M.): The University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law offers a program leading to the degree of master of laws in international trade law. The LL.M. program, approved by the American Bar Association, serves as graduate training in law for candidates who have earned a bachelor's or professional degree in law in the United States or abroad. The LL.M. program enrolls approximately 15 students annually, many of whom are law graduates from Latin America, Asia, Africa, and Europe. The one-year, full-time program, offered in coordination with the National Law Center for Inter-American Free Trade, is designed to provide candidates with the theoretical and practical knowledge required to understand current developments in the areas of international trade and commercial law, particularly with regard to private international commercial transactions, GATT/WTO issues and to Western Hemisphere free trade and economic integration. LL.M. candidates will complete a minimum of 24 credit hours for the degree. The curriculum includes "core" courses such as international trade and investment law, international commercial law and international litigation, as well as related general courses such as corporate law, securities law, administrative law, antitrust law and the Uniform Commercial Code. All LL.M. candidates must be J.D. graduates of an ABA approved law school in the United States, or demonstrate equivalent academic credentials from an accredited foreign law school. Candidates should have a strong academic record, experience or interest in international law, and fluency in English as well as Spanish, Portuguese or another language.
