The College of Pharmacy prepares pharmacists to provide pharmaceutical and related health care services. These services are mainly concerned with optimizing the therapeutic effects and minimizing the adverse effects of drugs. The professional program in the College of Pharmacy is fully accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education.

Professional Degree Program:

The professional degree offered by the College of Pharmacy is the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.).  Consult the Pharm.D. Major/Degree Requirements (APRR) for both pre-pharmacy and professional requirements.  The program for this degree is based upon a minimum of six years of college work (two years of pre-pharmacy and four years in the College of Pharmacy).  Admission to the Doctor of Pharmacy program requires completion of the pre-pharmacy curriculum.  Additional information about the pre-pharmacy curriculum, all professional requirements, approved general electives and clerkships is also available from the Office of the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, College of Pharmacy.

Graduate Programs:

In addition to the Pharmaceutical Sciences programs, College of Pharmacy faculty also contribute heavily to the Pharmacology and Toxicology Graduate program.

Admission Requirements for the Doctor of Pharmacy Program:

Students in the pre-pharmacy program at the University of Arizona are enrolled in University College. Students may complete pre-pharmacy course requirements while enrolled in other undergraduate degree-earning programs. Candidates are admitted into the professional pharmacy program only in the fall semester. Students who seek admission to the College of Pharmacy are urged to initiate the application process in October of the year preceding admission and have all application materials submitted as soon as possible, but no later than by mid January. Admission to the college is competitive; sixty candidates are accepted into the college each year. Applicants will be informed of their admission status by early April.

College Scholastic Requirements:

Students are subject to general university policy governing satisfactory academic progress (e.g. minimum GPA) found in the Academic Policy section of this General Catalog. The college also enforces one additional requirement. Students in the four-year professional Pharm.D. program must register for and complete a minimum of 14 units each semester.

Internships:

After enrolling in the College of Pharmacy, a student may register as an intern with the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy, 5060 N. 19th Avenue, Suite 101, Phoenix, AZ 85015.  Inquiries concerning registration as a pharmacy intern and internship regulations should be addressed to the Secretary of the Board of Pharmacy.
