Go directly to: Medical student electives are described in the College of Medicine Electives Manual. The Department: The Department of Emergency Medicine is in the College of Medicine. The department is
committed to providing the highest quality emergency and urgent care services.
The department also conducts top-level training programs for
paramedics, medical students, resident physicians and fellows, and community
physicians. The department faculty provide attending care to patients in the University Medical Center Emergency Department. The ED cares for almost 70,000 sick and injured children and adults each year. All urgent and emergent conditions are welcome in this highly efficient clinical setting. All the faculty are board certified specialists in Emergency Medicine. The Arizona Emergency Medicine Research Center has a mission to investigate and improve emergency medicine service for Arizona and all individuals suffering from urgent and emergent conditions. The Center has been recognized as a leader in improving prehospital care through both educational and research projects. Educational projects include developing original curricula and computer-based learning for both classroom and self-study applications; paramedic training courses; and EMS fellowships. Current research activities include injury control, epidemiological studies, trauma systems evaluation, out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, air medical research, outcomes studies, and toxicology and hazards materials research.
