F A 300 -- Introduction to Arts Management  (3 units)
Description:  An introduction to the field of non-profit arts management in the fields of performing, visual and media arts. Topics include an overview of management practices, organizational structure and administrative career opportunities in each field. In addition, the course will introduce specific aspects of arts management, including financial management, marketing, fund raising, artistic, administrative relationship, planning, personnel, and board and volunteer development. Course will feature guest lectures by industry professionals.

Description:  This course explores the process of creating interactive computer art by teaching the essential principles of programming.

F A 433A -- Digital Arts in Context  (3 units)
Description:  This course examines the historical, cultural and technological aspects of digital arts from the mid 20th century to the present. It traces the evolution of the Art & Technology Movement to provide a historical framework.

Prerequisite(s):  Advanced Standing and consent of instructor.

F A 435A -- Digital Arts Theory  (3 units)
Description:  This course is an introduction to the theories of Structuralism, Post-Structuralism and Postmodernism and an investigation of how these theories inform the digital arts.
Grading:  Regular grades are awarded for this course: A B C D E.
Prerequisite(s):  Portfolio review and advanced standing.
Typical structure:  2 hours lecture, 1 hour discussion.

F A 436A -- Digital Arts Authoring  (3 units)
Description:  Digital Arts Authoring is a class that explores the process of creating technology-dependent, interactive work(s). From concept to realization, this course will take students through the unique working modes and strategies of authoring complex technology-based art and design projects. This course is open to students in the arts and other disciplines (Engineering, Computer Science, Linguistics, Architecture, etc.) with substantial experience in digital technology.

Prerequisite(s):  Advanced Standing and consent of instructor.

F A 437A -- Foundation Digital 3D Modeling, Rendering and Rapid Protyping  (3 units)
Description:  This course introduces fundamental theories, principles, and practices of 3D digital modeling, rendering, and rapid prototyping. Students are given a thorough overview of 3D modeling techniques including: production of geometric and organic surfaces and forms using both NURBs and polygon construction, texturing, and lighting. Minimal materials fee for rapid prototyping assignment.
Grading:  Regular grades are awarded for this course: A B C D E.
Special course fee required:  $50.
Prerequisite(s):  Portfolio or indication of adequate computer experience. Minimal materials fee for rapid prototyping assignment.
May be repeated:  for credit 1 time (maximum 2 enrollments).

F A 493A -- Fine Arts Internship  (1-6 units)
Description:  Specialized work related learning experience consisting of training and practice in a private or governmental arts organization or agency.
Grading:  Alternative grades are awarded for this course: S P C D E.
May be repeated:  for a total of 12 units of credit.

F A 493L -- Legislative Internship  (12 units)
Description:  Working experience at the Arizona State Legislature; responsibilities draw upon student's area of major expertise and include preparing written and oral reports, summarizing legislative proposals, and providing information to legislators and legislative committees.
Grading:  Alternative grades are awarded for this course: S P C D E.
May be repeated:  an unlimited number of times, consult your department for details and possible restrictions.

F A 498 -- Senior Capstone  (1-3 units)
Description:  A culminating experience for majors involving a substantive project that demonstrates a synthesis of learning accumulated in the major, including broadly comprehensive knowledge of the discipline and its methodologies. Senior standing required.
Grading:  Regular or alternative grades can be awarded for this course: A B C D E or S P C D E.

F A 532A -- Interactivity  (3 units)
Description:  This course explores the process of creating interactive computer art by teaching the essential principles of programming. Graduate-level requirements include a more in-depth research in related artworks and in-depth oral presentation of their findings. Secondly, they will organize the programming of the final collaborative project.

F A 533A -- Digital Arts in Context  (3 units)
Description:  This course examines the historical, cultural and technological aspects of digital arts from the mid 20th century to the present. It traces the evolution of the Art & Technology Movement to provide a historical framework. Graduate-level requirements include two in-depth oral presentations, a 6-8 page research paper and an 8-10 page final paper.

F A 535A -- Digital Arts Theory  (3 units)
Description:  This course is an introduction to the theories of Structuralism, Post-Structuralism and Postmodernism and an investigation of how these theories inform the digital arts. Graduate-level requirements include producing three 30 minute digital presentations, take one essay exam, and prepare 2 digital research papers that are 5-10 pages in length.

Description:  Digital Arts Authoring is a class that explores the process of creating technology-dependent, interactive work(s). From concept to realization, this course will take students through the unique working modes and strategies of authoring complex technology-based art and design projects. This course is open to students in the arts and other disciplines (Engineering, Computer Science, Linguistics, Architecture, etc.) with substantial experience in digital technology. Graduate-level requirements include students taking a leadership role on collaborative projects, writing a 6-8 paper discussing a computer base artwork, presenting research to the class and publishing it to the course website.

Description:  Digital Arts Studio Critique Seminar is a class in the ongoing evolution of developing presentational skills and a forum for the presentation and critique of works and processes created by students enrolled in the Digital Arts M.F.A. plan of study.
