(3 units) Description: Archaeological and ethnohistoric survey of the civilizations of ancient Mexico from earliest times to the period of the Spanish Conquest. (3 units) Description: The course encompasses the greater Southwest, including northern Mexico from pre-Columbian times to the present. Evidence from archaeology, ethnology, linguistics, and biological anthropology is integrated. Emphasis is placed on the interaction of Indian, Hispanic, and Euroamerican peoples and their adaptation to and exploitation of the natural environment through time.
