WOMEN'S STUDIES

(W S )

Women's studies is an interdisciplinary academic program that offers courses focusing on the new scholarship on women's experiences and perspectives. The major allows students to specialize in courses focusing on women. A major in women's studies provides a sound liberal arts preparation for careers in journalism, social work, or administration of affirmative action with an emphasis on women's issues. It is also useful for students preparing for graduate or professional school.

Major requirements include a common core of introductory courses, at least one course offering a multi-cultural perspective, courses from several areas of study defined by the department, and a writing emphasis course.
