College of PharmacyProfessional Degree ProgramThe professional degree offered by the College of Pharmacy is the Doctor of Pharmacy
(Pharm.D.). The program for this degree is based upon six years of college work (two years
of pre-pharmacy and four years in the College of Pharmacy), as outlined below. Graduate Degree ProgramsThe college also offers graduate studies leading to the Master of Science degree in pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacology, toxicology, and pharmacy and the Doctor of Philosophy degree in pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacology and toxicology, and pharmacy. For information on specific graduate programs in the departments of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacology and Toxicology, and Pharmacy Practice, consult the Graduate Catalog. Admission Requirements for the Doctor of Pharmacy ProgramAdmission to the Doctor of Pharmacy program requires completion of courses as specified
in the pre-pharmacy curriculum. For information about specific pre-pharmacy requirements,
consult the college section of the on-line catalog, or contact the college at the address
above. Students in the pre-pharmacy program at the University of Arizona are enrolled in the
College of Arts and Sciences. Candidates are admitted into the professional pharmacy
program only in the fall semester. Students who seek admission to the College of Pharmacy
are urged to initiate the application process in October of the year preceding admission
and have all application materials submitted as soon as possible, but no later than by mid
January. Applicants will be informed of their admission status by early April. For information about the application process, application materials, and admissions
criteria, contact the Office of the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at (520) 626-1427. College Scholastic RequirementsStudents are subject to general university policy governing satisfactory academic
progress (e.g. minimum GPA) found in the policy section of this manual. The college also
enforces one additional requirement. Students in the four-year professional Pharm.D.
program must register for and complete a minimum of 14 units each semester. InternshipsAfter enrolling in the College of Pharmacy, a student may register as an intern with
the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy, 5060 N. 19th Avenue, Suite 101, Phoenix, AZ 85015.
Inquiries concerning registration as a pharmacy intern and internship regulations should
be addressed to the Secretary of the Board of Pharmacy. General Education ProgramStudents are required to take a number of general and practicum electives. |
