College of Social and Behavioral Sciences

Undergraduate Minors Policy

A minor is required by most B.A. and B.S. programs in the College of Social and Behavioral Science. Exceptions are made for the Latin American studies major, the interdisciplinary studies major, and any double major. Transfer students may discuss with the major advisor use of prior course work for the minor. A degree program may require a specific minor. For information about whether or not your degree program requires a specific minor, contact your major advisor or view the APRR for your degree program.

Some major programs permit a split minor (a minimum of 9 units in one department and 9 units in another department) or a thematic minor. The thematic minor is developed around a theme identified by the student, using courses from three or more disciplines. A thematic minor form must be submitted at the time of application for degree certification.

Requirements for a social and behavioral sciences minor:

Most departments who offer minors suggest core course to fulfill minor requirements. Contact the minor department for more information.

*Some social and behavioral science minors may not require a minimum of 9 upper-division units. Requirements for these minors are defined by the minor department. Contact your academic advisor for more information.
