ED P 195B Freshman Colloquium: Public Education in America (1) Provides analytical review of American K-12 public schools; draws upon empirical data, conceptual arguments about purposes of schools, and claims that the public school has outlived its usefulness.

ED P 300 Development Throughout Life (3) Life span development within the context of physical, intellectual, social, emotional, and moral development; emphasis on the dynamics of personal growth.

ED P 301 Child Development (3) Human growth and development from conception through early adolescence; integration of behavioral principles into the elementary school setting.

ED P 403 Preadolescence and Adolescent Development (3) II Major developmental tasks within the preadolescent and adolescent years. Emphasis on the importance of theoretically grounded research and the integration of theory, research and practice. (Identical with FS 403).

ED P 411 Computer Applications in Education (3) Essentials of computer operations; integration of computer technologies into the classroom; learning theory; instructional design in the use of technologies; use of presentation and related software; use and evaluation of computer-assisted instruction software. ED P 412 Multimedia Production in Education (3) Design of multimedia for instructional applications with an emphasis in production techniques and programming tools. May be convened with ED P 512.

ED P 415 Gender Issues in Education (3) Focus is on the influence of gender in educational processes. Topics include biological bases, theoretical approaches, research and measurement issues, familial and social influences, curriculum, teaching methods and interactions. ED P 541 Statistical Methods in Education (3-4) Descriptive, correlational, and inferential procedures for presenting and analyzing school and research data. For students in all fields.

ED P 548 Statistical Packages in Research (4) Covers SPSS and SAS; creating data files; writing syntax; understanding documentation and output. Descriptive statistics, chi-square test of independence, regression, ANOVA.

ED P 557 Design of Questionnaires and Scales (3) Theoretical, methodological, and practical issues related to the development and use of survey instruments. Representative topics include rating scales, item construction, sampling procedures, and response bias.
